Welcome to Wonder Sprouts Learning. A place where teachers, homeschool parents, daycare providers, and caregivers (such as grandparents) can come to learn fun and educational ways to teach children from kindergarten through primary school.

My name is Sue, and I am the owner, creator, and instructional designer for Wonder Sprouts Learning. I am not your traditional educator, as I do not teach in the classroom or have children of my own. How can I possibly be qualified to help you teach your little ones, you might ask. I have over 20 years of experience in higher education behind me and know the importance of a strong foundation for education. In my earlier years, I spent time working as an assistant to the children’s department head librarian at my local library. In this role, I lead story and craft time, helped with book suggestions, created take-home activity materials, and performed basic tutoring services.

When my (then young) niece was in my care, we didn’t do the typical coloring and watching TV. Every get-together was an adventure and a learning experience, whether she realized it or not. Baking cookies involved math through measuring ingredients and then accurately timing them so we had a perfect treat. A day at the beach involved collecting items on the shoreline and later categorizing them in jars. One of her favorite things was walking through the neighborhood or around the lake, identifying animals, collecting leaves and stones, and creating an adventure story about our travels.

As this is my philosophy on teaching, WSL’s goal is to create fun educational experiences for children who find regular teaching to be hard to follow, lacking in interest, or not taught in a way they can understand. I like to break down a traditional lesson plan by incorporating arts and crafts elements, outdoor/indoor activities, an enhanced learning component, and multiple levels of teaching materials for those who are beyond their age bracket or those who learn more slowly.

The WSL blog will have lots of different features, including the history of events and traditional holidays, the lifecycle of plants, animals, and insects, topical arts and crafts activities, book/reading suggestions, projects and activities for early finishers, social and emotional learning, and so much more.

I invite you to the WSL community of learners and hope you will find it a place to come when you need resources, encouragement, or ideas for educating the young children in your lives.

If there is anything that you would like to see featured on the WSL Blog, please feel free to contact me at wondersproutslearning@gmail.com.
